By the doorway of a Middle Kingdom brewery stands the portly brew-master, his sceptre of authority in his hand, and the workers bend to their tasks though there is no threat in the attitude of their overseer. The funerary model from which this group was derived is in teh Metropolitan Museum in New York. It was found at Thebes by the museum's Egyptian expedition in the spring of 1920. (XIth Dynasty, reign of King Mentu-hotpe III, 2060-2015 B.C.) |
