Dr. G. Arvid Hagstrom will leave
for the' East coast February 2 to at-tend
a meeting of the American
Baptist Foreign Mission board.
Enroute he will stop at Cleve-land,
Ohio, to speak in the Baptist
church. After the denominational
meeting in New York, the Presi-dent
will visit the Monte Clair Bap-tist
church to speak at its forty-fifth
anniversary.
Dr. Hagstrom called attention to
the inclusion of an item for $155
in Monte Clair church's present
budget for Bethel Institute. This,
he stated, was noteworthy in view
of the fact that this church is one
of the smaller ones on the Eastern
seaboard.
All-School Sleighing
Sleighing will feature an all-school
party on Monday, January
29, Dean Emery Johnson announc-ed.
The sleigh ride will start from
the College building at 7 p. m. Ad-mission
will be by Student activi-ties
ticket.
After the outdoor frolic the par-ticipants
will return for a lunch in
the College Coffee shoppe served
by the faculty wives, according to
the Dean.
Dr. Gordh's Classes
Prof. A. J. Wingblade is teaching
the classes of the late Dr. A. G.
Gordh. The School board will nom-inate
someone to fill the vacancy
occurring at the death of Dr. Gordh,
Dean K. J. Karlson said. This ap-pointment
will be confirmed by the
Swedish conference at its meeting
in July.
Registration
Dean Emery Johnson announced
that Monday, January 29, will be
Registration day for the second se-mester.
At that time tuition and
"ees will be payable in full.
Women's Dorm
Another school year may see the
addition of a Women's dormitory
to the school's present equipment,
according to Dean Emery Johnson.
"It looks rather hopeful that the
dormitory will be built during the
summer months," he said.
Rev. Wyman Malmsten, field
representative, estimates that
$18,000 in cash and pledges has
been received for the project. The
School board has authorized the
Building and Grounds committee to
investigate plans for the proposed
addition to the school's facilities.
Male Chorus Tour
Nineteen churches in 10 states
will be visited by the Male chorus
when it goes on its annual Spring
Concert tour. The group will leave
St. Paul on March 25 and be gone
until April 12.
Their itinerary will take them
through the New England, New
York, and Middle East conferences.
Boston and New York city will be
included.
Chatauquan
Guy C. Coldwell, a whistling nat-uralist,
will present "Adventures
With A Candid Camera" Friday
evening, January 26, to a Chatwu-quan
audience, Dean Emery John-son
announced today.
In addition to pictures, he will
present bird and animal calls and
some string music. Caldwell's fame
is well established in this field of
entertainment, Johnson informed.
All-School Trip
Bethelites will travel to Roches-ter
on Friday, February 23, for an
annual all-school basketball trip.
The event will be a Rochester-
Bethel conference tilt in the Muni-cipal
auditorium.
A bus has been chartered for
the event, and the band, accom-panied
by rooters, will be there for
the opening whistle.
Barnstorming Week
Ten varsity hoopsters, one man-ager,
and Coach Bill Adam will go
on a barnstorming tour during the
first week of the new semester.
They will leave on Monday, Janu-ary
29, and be gone four days.
Teams which the Indians will
play are Tracy, Worthington, and
Sioux Falls colleges, in three suc-cessive
evenings, the first two be-ing
conference games.
The personnel of the barnstorm-ing
squad is unannounced as yet.
Men's Tourney
Grant Samuelson and Glen Soule
are leading the winning basketball
outfits in the sophomore and
freshmen physical education class-es,
respectively.
Dallas West and Sidney Carlson
are high scorers for the yearlings;
and Gerald Larson and Milo Shen-del
lead the frosh.
Bethel Victory
Leading by 13 points, the Bethel
hoop quintet downed the Waldorf
cagers, 50-37, recently on the local
court. The game was somewhat
ragged, and the players showed the
results of the vacation layoff.
Gordon "Pete" Peterson led with
13 points, followed by Del Ray Pe-terson
and Don Johnson with 11
counters each.
Coed Hoopsters
Helen Heath's basketball team
with four victories is leading the
sophomore division of a women's
hoop tourney. Grace Widen and
Marjorie Jacobsen are stars.
In the first year class, Harrietta
Fossum's team is leading with
three games. Viola Carlberg is
outstanding player.

went on to his reward Thursday, January 4. Funeral services were held
from the Central Baptist church the following Monday.

Life has a span, whose length but God can know,
We play our part, by choosing weal or woe,
And trace a pattern Time cannot erase,
Until our record 'for God's throne we face.
There was a figure known and loved by all,
In class and playroom, chapel and in hall,
Small though his stature, somber though his dress,
Yet gleamed a spirit of rare loveliness.
Deep, deep gray eyes that spake in tender care,
Sometimes would twinkle; often tell a prayer,
As with pale hands the Living Word was pressed,
In awe and wonder to his loving breast!
Through pain and suffering, loneliness and trial,
His utter faith could find the patient smile,
From grace to victory, thus he overcame,
Till God's own Spirit ruled his feeble frame.
He too had fought the good and glorious fight,
A mighty champion of the good and right.
Now he has finished, ended every strife,
Finding fulfillment in eternal life.
He traced a pattern in this earthly mold,
Whose worth in human tongue cannot be told,
Through love of Christ, his life in word and deed,
Had answered "Yea" to every human need!
Be ours to cherish every memory dear,
Be ours to sense his presence lingering near,
Be ours to profit by his quiet zeal,
And ours to make the things of God more real!
"And so, good-night, beloved—not farewell;
A little while and all the saints will dwell,
In Allelujah, indivisible,
Good-night, good-night, good-night!"

"Del Ray Petersen, Bob Hovinen,
`Lap,pa' Ogren, Sidney Carlsen,
their respective women, and Bob
Wallin had a party" (end of quote).
It was after the basketball prac-tice
in the Seminary and eating
candy and the like provided re-freshments.
January 11, Thursday
After Thursday night Don John-son
will probably see to it that in
the future he will not have to be
offered a chair by Jack Bergeson.
For details see the members of
Gospel Team IV, who were the
guests of Lorene Bellstrom •after
their meeting at the West Side mis-sion.
Several games were played
after which Ethel Tederman tried
her best to out do Don in eating re-freshments.
January 12, Friday
It wasn't an organized party, but
the festive spirit was there never-theless.
With 40 Bethelites in the
Coffee shoppe at once it was al-most
as tight a squeeze as next
week will be for exams. Audrey
Martin provided the means of en-tertainment.
January 15, Monday
Whether freshmen aren't always
"kids" or not is a matter of ques-tion
with some people, but at least
Monday night they were without
having any guilty qualms. Rodney
Nelson was acclaimed the winner
of the "baby bottle milk drinking"
contest. Some of the students still
weren't over the daze on Tuesday
from going 'round and 'round dur-ing
the skit, "The Lighthouse
Tragedy." Clifford Bjorkland as
Little Lord Fauntleroy and Louise
Joonson attired in a Shirley Tem-ple
dress were awarded first prizes
by the judges Mr. and Mrs. Bill
Adam.

So Snuffy Smith's latest profes-sion
is that of mathematics ! ! She
spent all last Sunday working with
a large intricate figure. (What's
his approximate tonnage, Snuff?)
The resourseful H. Peter Han-son
is ever seeking new methods
of solving his problems. His latest
technique is that of placing his
most difficult subjects before him
on an improvised bulletin board.
Consequently he has posted on his
left a sheet of Hebrew forms; to
his right, the portrait of his girl
friend!
Durf Fagerstrom isn't the quiet
fellow we thought he was! Imag-ine
a whole town-ful of girls send-ing
our bashful(?) Durf lines of
loving greetings ! !!!
Who of our freshman girls sent
a Christmas card to a Seminary
trio saying, "With love, ?i,
P. S. The love was returned.
- GAGS THAT WORK!
Bobbie Hovinen sprained his an-kle
in basketball practice and man-aged
to get his economics book de-livered
to his room by a certain
little person. We didn't know you
were so interested in economics,
Bobbie?
Don Johnson is quoted in saying
that, "Some fellows go to the coun-try
for their girls, but I'm not one
of those fellows."
Cliff B. says that the Clarion
isn't what it used to be—because
his name isn't mentioned anymore.
He also came with the suggestion
of running a Want Ad column be-cause
he wants to advertise for a
blonde. (Ed. note: Anyone want
to take him up on it?)
One of our wise cracks suggests
that B. W. A. stands for Bethel
Wife Agency. Does he make use
of it?
Ah, for the days of the horse and
buggy when men were men, and
women weren't traffic hazzards.—
Modesto Collegian.
Said Ethel Ruff: "Seminary
women serve aesthetic purposes."
Said Bruce Fleming: "You mean
anaesthetic (anti-study)."
In zoology class, Archie Johnson
thought a "goiter" was something
that held up a sock.
Comment after viewing the New
Year casualty list: "It's a great
life if you don't week-end."
