The Senior class this year was one of the largest that has been graduated from the Seminary. There are many opportunities for those graduating now; the chaplaincy, full-time pastorates, and part-time pastorates and additional schooling. The Seniors had a party at Cedcrrholm's at Forest Lake and at Dr. Karlson's. The class gave as its gift to the school, a desk for Edwin Omark's office. The officers of the Seminary Senior class were: Joel Anderson, president; Orville Burch, vice president; Marie Green, secretary; and Eugene Nyman, treasurer. Not Pictured JANZEN, NORMA . . . Its members filled student pastorates, acted as church mission-aries, and preached in different neighboring churches. The Mid-dlemen's greatest task of the year was sponsoring the annual Seminary banquet. This year the Seminary banquet was held in the Y. M. C. A. in Minneapolis. The officers of the Seminary Middlemen class were: Dana Larson, president; Harris Youngquist, vice president; and Gloria Mitchell, secretary. This year the Junior Class of the Seminary was the smallest functioning body of the school, consisting of only seven mem-bers. Seven for '47 could be their slogan. Many have felt that they could better serve their Lord in the Armed Services than continuing in school, and plan to return after the war is over. Due to its size, the class did not sponsor any activities alone but assisted the Middlemen in sponsoring the Seminary banquet. The officers of the Seminary Junior Class were: David Daniel-son, president; Ray Hanson, vice president; and Lloyd Nordstrom, Treasurer; Harris Johnson, Secretary. _seminarI uniom Twenty-six Twenty-seven TOP Row: J. The officers for the last semester were: sponsor, Professor C. E. Carlson; president, Earl Trude; vice president, Gloria Anderson; secretary, Lois Thomas; treasurer, Ray Ashmun. The first semester Kay Shimatsu served as president and Mabel Ander-son as vice president. At the Junior-Senior Banquet the class presented their grad-uating gift to the school which was a donation toward the pur-chase of a movie projector. The graduating Sophomores were guests of the Bethel Alumni Association at the Alumni Banquet and of the Freshman class at the Junior-Senior Banquet. Twenty-eight Twenty-nine To Row : F. Shindo, R. In spite of wartime conditions, this year's freshman class boasted of being the largest in the history of our school. Not only was the class large, but it was also outstanding in many respects. Its members were en-gCtged in all of the school activities. Al-though many of the class members were called into the armed forces throughout the course of the year, the class continued to carry on in an enthusiastic manner. Sev-eral successful parties and shuffleboard and ping-pong tournaments were held during the year. All in all, from freshman week to the last day of school, -the freshman class helped make this year at Bethel another successful year. Class Officers W. Anderson, R. Daley, D. Swartz, D. This training endeavors to give the student a more thorough knowledge of the Bible and to better equip him in dealing with the problems of Christian leadership. The training also enables the student to teach Sunday School and Bible School more effi-ciently. Many have made good use of their practical training during the year by helping in the churches in the Twin Cities. The instructors of the various classes are: Professor A. J. Wing-blade, Miss Esther Sabel, Rev. Swan Engwall, and Professor E. G. Norstrom. Chridian WorZer'J Course . . Thirty-two Thirty-three SEATED: E. Norstrom, A. Iblings, H. Youngquist, D. Danielson, H. The program of spiritual activities at Bethel is sponsored by the Religious Council. Noon prayer meetings, fellows and girls meeting separately, and a united prayer service after dinner were held each school day. This year the council purchased three tract racks. Two of these were placed in the college and one in the Seminary. The largest undertaking for the Religious Council were the Deeper Life meetings in the fall with Missionary Eric Frykenberg, and in the spring with Dr. John Herrman. The Religious Council officers were: president, Donald Gan-strom; vice president, Harold Carlson; secretary, Helen Soder; treasurer, Gloria Mitchell. Here is the legislative organization of the Bethel student body. The group heads-up the activities of the entire seminary and college organizations. It functions as an intermediate board be-tween students and faculty. The membership of this large body is composed of one mem-ber from each of the classes, each publication group, and of the major clubs of the school. The officers were: president, Harold McClure; vice president, David Danielson; secretary-treasurer, Ruth Rask; seminary, War-ren Magnuson; Junior College, Bill Thompson; Religious Council, Harold Carlson; Alexis, Harris Youngquist; Forensics, Arlene Peterson; Publication, Walfred Peterson; Athletics, William Peter-son; B. A goal of $1,000 was set for further sup-port of Bethel in Jorhat, Assam, India, and for future "Bethels" in China and South America. This program has been very well supported by the students. Monthly meetings were held with interesting programs con-sisting of moving pictures of challenging fields, and talks by visit-ing missionaries, the highlight being the visit of Rev. Sten Lind-berg, first missionary to go out under our new Conference for-eign missions program. Another event of the year was the annual Missionary Day when guest speakers were Dr. Earl L. Riley, Dr. Glenn Tuttle, and Rev. Walfred Danielson. tmion,ar gan,c1 SEATED: Miss E. Nelson, Alma Iblings, Arlene Peterson, Mabel Anderson, Virginia Anderson. If you were to enter the reception room of the Girls' Dormitory on the second Thursday of every month at 2:30 o'clock in the afternoon, you would be welcomed by the feminine group of Bethel including all College and Seminary girls, teachers and faculty wives. This group is known as the Bethel Women's Association of which Miss E. Nelson is the advisor. Throughout the year the cabinet chairmen consisting of Mabel Anderson, Virginia Ander-son, Violet Carlson and Alice Olson, together with their groups, have been responsible for the programs. The object of this organization is to bring all Bethel women together in a closer fellowship with one another and with God. The officers for the past year were: president, Alma Iblings; vice president, Lily Johnson; secretary, Barbara Edson; assistant secretary, Jane Larson; treasurer, Gladys Biller; assistant treas-urer, Miriam Nelson. . . . &gel Wonien'3 _Amociation, Thirty-six Thirty-seven TOP Row: R. Male Quartette The Bethel Male Quartet consisting of David Danielson, Lloyd Nordstrom, Wil-liam Peterson, and Roger Youngquist, has made itself a popular and well-known group both inside and outside of Bethel. Not only has the quartet taken part in chapel programs, Twin City Church services, and Gospel team work, but it also took a large part in the concert given by the Bethel choral groups at the First Baptist Church in Minneapolis. With a group of thirty-eight members, this year's Arian Chorus under the able direction of Professor Nels Stjernstrom, had many successful singing engagements. Besides singing in many of the Twin City churches, the group also sang at the St. Paul Youth For Christ Singspiration, and made a trip out of town to Cambridge. The Arian Chorus, which was organized at Bethel only five years ago, is for the musical training and de-velopment of Bethel girls. Officers for this year included: pianist, Ruth Rask; president, Dorothy Dahlman; vice president, Jean Hamlett; secretary, Gretchen Clauson; treasurer, Phyllis Johnson; and librarian, Vir-ginia Peterson. This year, the Bethel Male Chorus under the direction of Professor Nels Stjernstrom, consisted of fourteen mem-bers. The officers of the group were: president, Lloyd Nordstrom; vice presi-dent, David Danielson; secretary, War-ren Magnuson; treasurer, William Peter-son; and librarian, Clarence Sahlin. A concert given at the First Baptist Church in Minneapolis featured the Male Chorus along with the other Bethel musical groups. We also have had the privilege of hearing this group in chapel pro-grams. Because most of the members of the chorus were student pastors and had other duties, the chorus was not able to sing at any other affairs. Clarion Staff FIRST Row: E. Pegors, A. Skarp, N. If we as a staff of the forty-five "Spire - are to claim any publication records, we must boast of speed. The difficulties involved in obtaining mate-rial due to wartime restrictions for a time seemed to make publication impossible. This year the Clarion has enlarged its circulation to include all servicemen who have left Bethel since school started, this year and last year, and to all others who have requested it. A subscription drive was launched during Homecoming Week in the fall which also increased the Clarion's circulation. For Homecoming a six-page issue was printed. The first part of the year Mabel Anderson was editor, and her assistant was Carl Applequist. In March Co-Editors Norma Seaquist and Audrey Skarp took up their duties. The business manager for the entire year was William Thomp-son, and the business advisor was Dean Emery Johnson. Forty Forty-one . . . AtA.Lti,J Student Pastors are young men from all classes of the Seminary. Each week end they take up their charges at missions and churches in the Twin City area and outlying towns and rural communities. Some have steady pastorates while others are kept busy supplying pulpits at various places where the need arises. Because of the shortage of pastors clue to chaplaincy enlistments, our Seminary stu-dents look out upon fields white with harvest but where labourers are few, and are brought face to face with the challenge of a needy world. As a result, it had a good season with a full schedule. The team made a trip to Cambridge, Minnesota, and also played several games at nearby colleges, but most of the games were played in the college gym. During the fall semester, Betty Danielson acted as coach; Paul Edwards took over in January. The team's captain was Eunice Wood, and Marianne Schouweiler served as manager. FIRST Row: C. Peterson, B. Although they encountered difficulty at the begin-ning of the season, Bethel's diamondmen had, on the whole, a successful year. Six men returned from last year's nine to form the nucleus for one of the finest squads in the history of the sport at Bethel.
