C. Wingblade, who for twenty-seven years has been an instructor at Bethel. Professor Wing-blade has so established himself in the love and respect of his students that any memories of Bethel must needs bring with them memories of "H. C." With his unusual mastery of literature and his own enthusiasm for the works of great men, he has made his lectures alive and interesting, and in his own inimitable way has brought his students the great truths of life. Professor Wingblade has made it easy for students to talk to him — to tell him of their difficulties, discourage-ments and successes because they have always been sure of quick understanding, sympathy and aid. Perhaps that is one of the reasons why he has been chosen the sponsor of every senior class since he came to Bethel. He has been adviser to the student council, to the Junior Col-lege club, and to the annual. (led/Cale /0, AO/re/1404 w• With her beginning in Chicago in 1871, as the Scandi-navian Department of the Baptist Union Theological Seminary, Bethel Institute has progressed during the in-tervening years into her present bi-departmental organi-zation as Bethel Theological Seminary and Bethel Junior College. With the exception of three years -- one spent in St. Paul and two in Stromsberg, Nebraska — the work continued in Chicago until 1914 when the Seminary was moved to St. Paul to join the Academy, which had been previously established in Minneapolis in 1905. In 1914 Dr. G. Arvid Hagstrom became president of the combined school organization of the Academy and Seminary. Two buildings, one known as the Academy building and the other as the Seminary, were erected on the present campus located on Snelling Avenue. Feeling the need of trained lay workers, the school launched the Bible and Missionary Training department in 1922. Soon the need for collegiate training became apparent and as a result the Junior College was estab-lished in 1931. The Academy, Junior College, Bible and Missionary Training department and Seminary existed until 1935 when the General Conference voted to dis-continue the Academy and Bible Department. A Chris-tian Workers' Course, offered in the Junior College, was substituted for the B. M. T. course. The present organization of Junior College and Sem-inary has been in existence for three years with an in-crease in efficiency, in enrollment and in general growth of curricula. ditoid-v4,04,14,1a64# o/14,e,/ 91441/1kble Poid,a/4 dvicsarth athic,4 haae ed,eizeci EMERY A.
