Restaura: Review: ban's angolian Barbecue Lacy-Gackle ticket survives bumpy road et geared ; up for spring with the baseball By Krista Clark StaffWriter Bethel Student' Association has revealed juniors Sam Lacy and Joel Gackle as winners of the election for 2002-2003 Student Body President and Vice President, respectively. Despite an unanticipated delay of events, this year's presidential election was held on Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 26 & 27. Lacy and Gackle acquired a total of 595 votes while sophomore opponents Paul Tschetter and Gregg Lindberg received 310 votes. "I was very surprised," said Gackle. "With the delay of the election, any previous expectations became uncertain." Members of the Election Board felt that it was necessary to delay the election until the following week due to irregularities by each candidate's campaign in regards to the BSA constitution. "The BSA Constitution is very general with its campaigning regulations," said Dan Meyer, Director of Marketing for the Communications Board. As discrepancies arose during the week leading up to the elections, BSA was aware that neither party was intentionally breaking the regulations such as the campus-wide e-mail and poster guidelines, but it was necessary to communicate that to the student body. The Board met with each party and clarified the overlooked policies via campus e- mail in order to move the election forward. The end result was a five-day postponement. The election results left Lacy and Gackle stunned, but they understand the realities of the upcoming year. Both are looking forward to preparing for their future term throughout the rest of this semester under the auspices of current Student Body President Rob Anderson and Vice President Erin Tri. Lacy and Gackle will immediately begin learning the ropes of their respective positions in the Student Senate. In addition, they will be considering their options to begin assembling a cabinet for next year in the following weeks. Above all, Lacy and Gackle hope to begin serving the Bethel community on the same level as students. They "have no intention of changing their vision" and plan on "walking into the BSA with a realistic approach that will best meet student's needs." Despite lots of work ahead of them, Lacy and Gackle are confident in looking forward to a promising future for the 2002-2003 school year. Women's History Month offers challenge to "Get Real" Compiled by Clarion Staff In case you haven't heard, March is Women's History Month—a time to celebrate the accomplishments and lives of women.
