THE NORTHWESTERN PILOT Published by the Students of The Northwestern Bible and Missionary Training School 6 South Eleventh Street MINNEAPOLIS "THAT I MAY KNOW HIM.11 This was the cry of Paul; this is our longing, and the only reason for our presence in this, our School. To know Him means far more than to know about Him. To know Hit, here and now, we must make much of the Book. "In the volume of the Book it is written of Me." And yet there mast; be more than an open Bible, for even with an open Bible we may not know Him. The study of Him is a spiritual exercise, the caccess of which depends upon our spiritual condition. If one cannot see the light, the fault s in the eyes. If we study the Bible, and do not see Him, and so come to know Him, the fault is our own. If we would know Him we must sp()d much time in the very hush of, the throne room. In the hush of the desert, on holy ground, He revealed Himself to Hoses. Here :-A,zain much depends upon ourselves. Tne way into His presence is the 1,7 of holiness. Neglected con ins is because of sin separat-. ing between us and Him. We must 1,, ch,against sin and neglect. ;..L:ely as our lives are not lived n prayer and communion we shall not know Him. If we would know Him we must "pay the priceul In a letter from India came this: "I visited the leper asylum in Allahabad, and February lb, iu2i, _No . 6 • 'there saw sights toc awful tc write about. I met Miss Frances, of whom you have no doubt heard. She was a beautiful young Indian ;Christian girl, and was ready tc be married when she was taken with the dreaded disease. The doctor was called, and she was sent with her brother to the hospital in Allahabad. When she centered the hospital she looked 'around her, and her heart alriost failed,--- as my heart failed the first time I saw a leper. She turned, put her arms about her brother's neck, and said, 'Oh, take me away from here. I cannot stay in such a place.' Others present felt that she would lose her mind. Then one of the missionaries came to her and said-i,'Miss Franbes, you know about the Lord Jesus., but the other lepers do not know about our Christ. Will you not tell them the sweet story?' She stayed and took up her task in the name of the Lord, and it has been her privilege to lead more than a hundred souls to Christ. As I spoke to her that day I was conscious of standing in the presence of one who knew her Lord as few people know Him. Her. face was radiant because of the inner light which oould not be hid. She said, 'I thank God every day for making me a leper, and through my sufferings I kno\/ a little of what Jesus suffered in Gethsemane.'" It's worth the price. R.L.Moyer. -26-
